Well today started early with a knock on the
door at 3am, Ben had a stomach complaint and
had been sick, by morning he was feeling better
but he was ruled out of the Ivrea competition
for the day.
The remainder of the squad had an early breakfast
at 7:30 am and off to the course at 8:30 for
demonstration runs at 9:00am and a 10:30 start
to racing.
After breakfast I was confronted
by Phil G who had been attacked by the dreaded
mossies through the night and had a swollen
hand and face, after some debate he decided
to race and see how the swelling went, thankfully
it went down through the morning..
The was a Under 23 National
competition so all the Aussies were in separate
classes to race, we nearly made up 50% of
the competitors
First runs were over reasonably
quickly, with some good performances. Second
runs were reverse seeded in the first runs
results. Talis and Tom had an interesting
get out after the ist runs by going over the
last drop backwards and getting stuck, requiring
rescue to get them out of there boat.
Second runs went without a hitch
until the C2 runs, Talis and Tom got into
difficulty at the end of the course and had
a swim over the last drop, they got reasonably
crunched, in the end everyone was OK and the
boat survived.
The presentation took place
at 2pm with all the Australians getting a
gift, I think they thought we need shows as
the gifts were soap and shampoo packs from
a sponsor of the event.
The Ivrea Canoe club was great
and showed the Australian Team great hospitality.
I little bit of bartering took
place with the on sight photography and we
got a collection of photos of all the team
for a reasonable price.
The afternoon hotted up again
and we headed back to our digs to chill out
and watch a couple of movies for the rest
of the afternoon.
Dinner was at local Pizza restraint
recommended by the local
