Wednesday, 28/6/06 - Day 5

CJ and Talis

We awoke this morning to a dawn chorus of traditional Slovenian songs sung by a rowdy group of all-nighters from the local club. None of which were team members. Breakfast was at 7:30 with a wide selection of gourmet foods including some sausages that looked as if they had been reconstituted in fat, strangely enough these were a favourite amoung some paddlers and a certain coach. We left for training at 9am with most of us driving the 2 minutes to the course, with the coaches carrying out an earlier threat of leaving without the slow ones, causing the slow minority of the team to have to walk to the course. The morning session was spent paddling thirds accompanied by videoing and timing. After lunch lengthy video reviews ensued taking longer than was expected causing the 3 C1 paddlers to catch a lift with Zlatan because everyone else had left in the jumper. The other jumper was out with Geoff being fixed after numerous complaints by its occupants that the air-conditioning was not working; as it turns out they were right with the air-conditioning unit in a new jumper not having been filled with gas. Our second session was at 5 with us arriving at 4 to the site of some rather disturbing views of the native population. As it seems the course is somewhat like the bondi beach of Slovenia with people coming from all around to work on there tan and enjoy the cool water. Our second session was a short technique session followed by rapid sprints. Dinner was a rather interesting affair with an interesting combination of slimy green mush which we were told was spinach but few of us were willing to try and an interesting Slovenian attempt at meat which was not even comparable to the real stuff back home. Tonight is rapping up with a rather comical game of twister which is still carrying on as we type. Which we are off to join.
Lakanuš (goodnight in Slovenian)
